The Loch Ness metaphor, a monstrous mystery

I still shiver a little at one of the stories told to me years ago by Dr. Roy P. Mackal, who, along with his scholarly attainments as a professor of biology at the University of Chicago (where he investigated, among other things, bacteriophages and the lysogenic cycle), firmly believed in weird creatures.
