People say vaudeville is dead.
Travis Stewart disagrees.
"Vaudeville is not dead," he says. "It's just been very, very sick."
Where, you wonder, have all the juggling unicyclists, yodeling magicians and tap-dancing ventriloquists gone?
OK, maybe you don't wonder; but Stewart used to. However, now he knows. And when asked, Stewart's simple answer could be, "No Applause - Just Throw Money."
His new book (Faber and Faber, $25) chronicles the life and (near) death of the old-fashioned performance art, from its ancient beginnings to its modern resuscitations.
You can find the book here. Looks cool.
