Great article on the sale of a Chicago gallows kept for years in case the escaped criminal "Terrible Tommy" O'Connor (fictionalized in the film The Front Page) was ever caught. The gallows also saw labor activists convicted in the Haymarket Riots of 1886 into the next world.
