The Lard Fiend

An 1884 newspaper auction on Ebay featuring "the story of the "Lard Fiend", who would traverse the Brockton streets on busy Sunday nights and unbenounced to the ladies, and while walking close to them, deposit a solution of lard on the backs of women's "costly silk dresses," thus ruining them. Because of the congestion on the streets, he was able to do this without as yet being caught. Upon the release of this issue, it was the eighth time he had struck within a few weeks. A serial criminal to be sure."
