Mystery in the many British Isles

Blame Shakespeare or my school textbooks, but I -- like probably many another -- thought the British Isles consisted of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Actually, they number many more than 1,000, with more than 900 lying off the rugged coast of Scotland.
