Carbonear home to first church in North America?

The Conception Bay town can trace its roots to 1550 when it was first mentioned by the Fishing Admirals. It was settled by Nicholas Guy in 1630.

But if the findings of a recently deceased British historian can be substantiated, the town may well be able to trace its roots back even farther - perhaps to the late 1400s.
