Hit or myth: stars date the slaughter

AFTER delving into a 3000-year-old mystery using astronomical clues in Homer's The Odyssey, researchers say they have dated one of the most heralded events of Western literature: Odysseus's slaughter of his wife's suitors on his return from the Trojan War.

    Ridiculous. Homer was a poet, not an historian. And certainly not an astronomer.
