In Hawaii, searching for the secrets of the temple

From a distance, the heiau ("hey ow") looks like not much more than a black wall about five stories high. But up close, I can see the details of how it was constructed centuries ago, the large, porous lava stones meticulously fitted together without mortar, like a giant 3-D puzzle.
